Monday has always been a little bit of a let down, what with it being the beginning of the work week and all.

So to start things out on a bright note for the week, I bring you the…

Baby Boomers Monday Musings.

 My Pet Peeve

Why is it that in almost every article you read about Baby Boomers they have to tell us “(those born between 1946 & 1964)”? (note parenthese are almost always included)

Frankly, I already knew I was a Baby Boomer since I was born in 1953 and my older brother (1947) and sister (1955) and baby brother (1960). Besides the fact that my father fought in WWII. So, why do they continually have to quantify us by giving us the criteria for being a Baby Boomer every single time someone writes an article that even remotely mentions the Baby Boomer Generation?

And I have a question for all the great quantifiers of said articles. What month in 1946 did the Baby Boomer Generation start?

9 months after VE Day? 9 months after VJ Day?

What about all those born in 1945 whose parents fought in WWII? Are they from a different generation by virtue of being born during the war instead of after?

Who the hell are the GenJonesers anyway? They claim that being born between 1954 & 1965 they are NOT Boomers but GenJones. I guess that leaves little sis & baby bro out in the cold and they aren’t really Boomers, but Jonesers?

How can people lump 75? 78? 80? million people (no one agrees on the number of Boomers either) into a label that they can’t define or quantify by anything other than some arbitrary dates?

I don’t know about you, but I refuse to read ANY article by anyone that uses (born between 1946 & 1964) ever again. It give me a headache.

But that’s just me musing about something I see all the time that irks me about Non-boomers writing about Real Boomers.

What about you? What are your pet peeves about misconseptions or misrepresentations about us Boomers?

Hope that put a little smile on your face and Keep On Smilin’
