Blue-Collar Jobs Tend to Wear Out The Body Faster Than Other Jobs Posted: 15 Sep 2010 08:16 AM PDT You ever notice how many chiropractors’ offices are located in blue-collar neighborhoods. A lot of blue-collar folks wear out their bodies faster than white-collar people because of the demanding physical labor or repetitive motion required by many jobs that could be labeled ‘blue collar’. With Social Security faltering, I have wondered for a long time how blue-collar people will be able to continue to do their taxing work past the normal retirement age. Now the New York Times chimes in with a story this week on the topic of blue-collar people and their retirement. I know a number of people who are in their 50s and whose work requires standing on their feet all day, among other difficult physical tasks — painting houses, mowing lawns, cashiering. It’s rough. |
