Labor Day = Last Hurrah for Summer

Posted: 06 Sep 2010 02:35 PM PDT

For Labor Day weekend, a friend invited me to her family’s cottage on a lake in upstate New York. We had a great time. Among the activities:

We visited a nunnery, where the nuns were known for their cheesecakes. We bought four slices and three of us devoured them.

We visited a tiny town called Shushan, where the residents held a townwide yard sale. Everywhere you looked there was stuff for sale.

We had a venison BBQ. Only the second time I’ve tried venison. It was good.

Went to a carnival and ate fried dough and saw farm animals and rode the Ferris wheel.

We went to the historic Saratoga Race Course and ate breakfast at trackside. The racing season ended this weekend.

Just hung out and chatted and drank wine and did the things you do at a summer cottage on the last summer weekend of the year.
