Is Your Bank on the Problem Bank List? Posted: 01 Nov 2011 11:59 AM PDT The so-called Problem Bank list, maintained by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, contains the names of institutions that are likely to have weak capital positions that can lead to failure. The FDIC does not publicize the list for fear of causing a run on the bank. But here is the Problem Bank List (you can sort this list by state, etc. so you can see if your bank is here). It stands at 985 banks right now. Every week as banks become insolvent, the federal government closes them. The weekly report of U.S. banks that have failed is updated each Saturday. This Saturday, Nov. 5, is going to be interesting. Consumer groups have called for a "Bank Transfer Day," where customers of big banks are urged to move their accounts to community banks and credit unions. I just heard about this today and want to spread the word. |
I’ve Developed a Taste for Prune Juice Posted: 01 Nov 2011 07:43 AM PDT I can’t believe I’m admitting this in public, but I’ve been drinking prune juice lately. A lot of it. I know that prune juice has medicinal properties, so to speak, but I drink it because I like it! I put some ice in a glass and make myself a Prune Juice on the Rocks. Why does this always elicit laughs? There’s something shameful about saying you like prune juice. Do kids ever drink prune juice? I am pretty sure they don’t. |
