“Upstairs, Downstairs” is Being Revived!

Posted: 05 Apr 2011 06:22 AM PDT

As a teenager, I adored watching Upstairs, Downstairs, the mega-popular BBC series that followed the lives of  an elite early-1900s family (Upstairs) and their servants (Downstairs). It aired in the early 1970s, and I watched it faithfully. The exciting news is that the show is being revived, beginning this month, with a new cast. According to a New York Times story:

"Upstairs, Downstairs" was the longest-running and, according to a survey of viewers a few years back, best-loved series ever broadcast on "Masterpiece" (formerly and more familiarly known as "Masterpiece Theater") on public television. It ran for 55 episodes over four seasons in the United States, won seven Emmy Awards and was shown in 70 countries.

My favorite characters were Lady Marjorie Bellamy (upstairs), and Mrs. Bridges, Rose  and Hudson (downstairs). Jean Marsh, who played Rose, is the co-creator of the original series and will appear in the new shows! Feel free to share your Upstairs, Downstairs memories here.
