The Boomer Chronicles

A Horrible Beating

Posted: 22 Dec 2011 02:42 PM PST

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that a woman was horribly beaten by Egyptian military men. Women tried to come to her rescue. She was brutalized and humiliated. She is now in the hospital. When is the madness going to stop? It doesn’t matter the nationality, ethnic group, or religion. The madness has got to stop.

What I’m Gonna Do on My Week Off

Posted: 22 Dec 2011 08:12 AM PST

Happy Hanukkah, Winter Solstice and Christmas. I’ve got the next 11 days off, so here are some of things I’m going to be doing:

  • Reading a stack of books, both fiction and nonfiction (We Need to Talk about Kevin; Sybil Exposed; etc.)
  • Riding my bike a bit
  • Going to upstate New York see my great friend Cat and her family for Xmas
  • Seeing my great friend Mary from Texas and her family when they come to Boston this week
  • Going to Newport, Rhode Island, to see the colonial houses they open each year
  • Watching movies
  • Making latkes
  • Lighting candles
  • Going to a Sound of Music singalong

To increase your holiday mood, here’s some Christmas music (there are just not that many good Hanukkah songs). If you’re a boomer of a certain age, you will recognize the sound of the Ray Conniff Singers. It’s 1960s Muzak, but Ray made a bundle arranging it.
