The Dangers of Facebook for Baby Boomers Posted: 18 Dec 2011 03:24 AM PST This is a Guest Post by Melanie Slaugh, freelance Writer. If you would like to Guest Post for Baby Boomers US, check out our Guest Post for Us page. We've all done stupid things as a youngster. Things you wish everyone would forget about. You've moved away, moved on, and left those things behind you. Until your past meets your present. Memories you've long forgotten or pushed to the side come to light, and can get you in big trouble. A few examples? A risqué photo sent to an old boyfriend pops up where your kids can see it. Your brief stint as a night-club singer. The college frat party you don't remember. Even something as simple as a yearbook autograph, complete with a mention of a night you'd rather forget. All these can crop up when you least expect it; leading to some questions you'd rather not deal with. What can you do? Well, besides forgoing Facebook, that is? Not much. Things will turn up, and the facial recognition Facebook includes will eventually unearth a photo that no one should see. All you can do is prepare yourself for the worst. You may want to mention, in vague terms, some of your less savory escapades to your present spouse. One thing you can do for others: don't post embarrassing or risqué photos from the past without asking them first. It's common courtesy. Even if they are not the subject of the photo, they could still have some qualms. I know that's hard to do for every funny, disturbing, or strange photo you want to post, but try to think of others. Hopefully they'll do the same for you.
