The Jews are well-represented at the Olympics! Aly Raisman, a Massachusetts girl, gymnasted (or whatever) to the tune of Hava Negila, and blew the competition away! A video of Raisman reveals her amazing performance.

At the Site of the Boston Massacre

When you live in Boston, you often encounter scenes like this: people dressed in colonial American outfits talking to gaggles of tourists about things like the Boston Massacre. This occurrence is probably common in Philadelphia, too. But what about other cities? What kind of costumes do you happen upon in, say, Boise? Columbus? Detroit?

Smile!

Smile!

Monday has always been a little bit of a let down, what with it being the beginning of the work week and all.

So to start things out on a bright note for the week, I bring you the…

Baby Boomers Monday Musings.

The Birth Order

Your Clothes:

1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.

2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.

3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.

Preparing for the Birth:

1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.

2nd baby: You don’t bother because you remember that last time, breathing didn’t do a thing.

3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your eighth month.

The Layette:

1st baby: You pre-wash newborn’s clothes, color-coordinate them, and fold them neatly in the baby’s little bureau.

2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.

3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can’t they?

Worries:

1st baby: At the first sign of distress–a whimper, a frown–you pick up the baby.

2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.

3rd baby: You teach your three-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

Pacifier:

1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until you can go home and wash and boil it.

2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it off with some juice from the baby’s bottle.

3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.

Diapering:

1st baby: You change your baby’s diapers every hour, whether they need it or not.

2nd baby: You change their diaper every two to three hours, if needed.

3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to complain about the smell or you see it sagging to their knees.

Activities:

1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and Baby Story Hour.

2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.

3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

Going Out:

1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home five times.

2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.

3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.

At Home:

1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.

2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday watching to be sure your older child isn’t squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.

3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Swallowing Coins:

1st child: When first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the hospital and demand x-rays.

2nd child: When second child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for the coin to pass.

3rd child: When third child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!!

GRANDCHILDREN: …God’s reward for allowing your children to live.

Hope that put a little smile on your face and Keep On Smilin’

How to Manage an Unplanned Financial Need?

Posted: 29 Jul 2012 04:04 AM PDT

We all feel that it is very difficult to provide money for any unplanned needs or wants unless and until our finances are strong and healthy enough at all the times. There are ways that deal with those situations and help you to stop it from becoming a nightmare. If an unexpected financial disaster strikes your family then:

First, review your options. It is very important to remain calm and think of the solution. No matter how bad the situation is, you can make it even worse if you make a hasty decision. Instead think of how to deal with the situation and assess whether it requires a long term solution or a short term solution. If it requires an emergency fund then it is advisable to choose payday loans. Secured loans are the best source only if you have collateral and a good credit score.

Always be prepared with all the required documents and proof. As and when you decide to apply for a loan you need to provide this proof and information to the lender. If you delay submitting the documentation to the lender then the loan amount is also delayed so always, be ready with all the documents to get cash faster.

When looking at borrowing from credit cards or other loans then it is advisable to do some research online. And sometimes you will find good lenders who operate solely online and all the formalities can be done without paperwork. This will reduce the burden of filling lots of paperwork and traipsing round high street banks so can save lot of time.

While utilising the funds, you need to take some care. Some bills will be more important and pressing than others so, you need to prioritise your expenses. For example, all your grocery bills and home rent payments should be on the top of the list so you don't jeopardise your basic needs. According to your situation, prioritise the bills to be paid and repay them one by one. Always start with the high interest rate bill first. You need to give up your luxuries. Making this small sacrifice will help you prevent making an ultimate sacrifice in the long run.

Approach your creditors and negotiate. Clearly explain your situation, this can have an impact on your creditors and sometimes they may extend the payment due dates or waive the late fees. It is better to negotiate before you get too far behind.

Day Trip to A Pretty Seaside Town

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 03:57 PM PDT

Went up to Rockport, Massachusetts, today for a few hours. This is a pretty place on Cape Ann (that’s the Other Cape; not Cape Cod). Rockport is known for lobstering and rocky beaches. They also have a great bookstore and an amazing music hall that uses the ocean as a backdrop to musical performances. Rockport [...]

coffee cupEvery week I come across an article or two that I find very helpful to me as a Baby Boomer and think may be of some interest to you, the community, as well.

They may be from an online news source, another Blog or Website or something I found surfing around the Internet. They could even be something that was sent in by a reader of the Blog or a member of the Baby Boomer’s Forum.

Enjoy!

Baby Boomers: Con Artists Are Targeting You by Lucy Lazarony… The other day, I had someone come to my door to get me to change my electric company carrier, it was a scam (he was just trying to get our personal information). There are also many of the same type of con artists pushing you to invest in some fraudulent investment scheme. Find out more.

I hope you found this weeks choice(s) helpful and enjoyable. What did you think? Do you have any suggestions for next week?
